The program actually started earlier this summer when Dr.

Claude M. McClure, hospital chaplain and recruitment program director, obtained a list of 640 Indiana high school girls interested in nursing. Through the efforts of Edward Gallahue, Indianapolis businessman who is financing the campaign, the names were cataloged and distributed to district superintendents who will give them to ministers. THE 750 METHODIST ministers in the state will carry on the drive, contact the prospective nurses and others, and report to the central committee by Dec. 10.

The pastors also will set aside Sunday this fall when each deliver a sermon on the nursing profession. Bishop Richard C. Raines of the Indianapolis area who attended today's meeting, expressed commendation of the project. "The recruiting of students for our Methodist Hospital School of Nursing is rightly a state-wide project. We must be sure that all local pastors have.

all available information on the subject. I hope we can do some pioneering here and a lift to the rest of the country," Bishop Raines said. Mrs. Mary McCreary services for Mrs. Mary McCreary, a resident of Indianapolis 60 years, will be 2:30 p.m.

JONATHAN No. 3 Lbs. COOK 24 HoUr 759 Mass. Ave. 1 Death Notices Hammond Fido Puts 'The Paw' On Burglar By MARY E.

BOSTWICK An unusual witness attended a trial in the Crown Point Courthouse, and the only witness fee Lake County had to pay was a ham bone. The county didn't have to pay that, really, but it did anyway. The witness was Duke, a Dalmatian dog, who cornered a would-be burglar in Gary, and raised such a rumpus that the burglar, John Cowan, was arrested almost instantly. When the case was called before Judge William J. Murray, Duke was right hand for identification purposes, and was duly sworn in.

"Arf, arf!" said Duke, according to the Hammond Times. That was enough for Cowan, who pleaded guilty, ex-' plained that he had been drinking when he took a flier in burglary, and was now a changed man. A 2-to-5-year sentence was suspended. Judge Murray, and Gary Duke police chipped in and got a succulent ham bone. He ate his witness fee with much relish.

Light sleepers in Martinsville, just taking off for dreamland when the new supercharged fire siren on the City Hall let loose with a deafening yowl to mark the 10 o'clock curfew and sent them leaping from their beds as if the crack of doom had sounded in their ears, will get a break. Fire Chief Ira Chamer, says the siren will no sound the curfew. However, siren or no siren, Martinsville small fry will have to scamper for cover at 10 p.m. just the same. The unusual spectacle of an officer of the law pursuing a chicken dinner through back yards, down streets and up alleys was witnessed in Franklin when the Franklin Star, Officer Ed Lineman and some associates took off after an errant rooster.

The rooster, still on the hoof, was finally cornered by Linneman. There will be a chicken dinner at the Linneman home, come Sunday.
