Ruth Langsford breaks social media silence after shock Eamonn Holmes split (2024)

Ruth Langsford has shared her first post on social media following confirmation she and Eamonn Holmes were divorcing after 14 years of marriage.

On Saturday a statement was released that said the couple’s marriage was ‘over’ and that they were ‘in the process of divorcing’.

Sources claimed to the publication that their work commitments ‘took them in different directions’ as they drifted apart in recent months, but they were determined to remain friends and ‘keep things amicable’.

The day after the news, Ruth shared a series of posts online, however did not address the headline-grabbing news.

Instead she shared videos taking her dog Maggie for a walk and ‘enjoying the little bit of sunshine we got today’.

Soon after she posted another video of her mum Joan sitting on a couch and patting an excitable Maggie.

On the day that their imminent divorce was revealed, Eamonn also returned to social media, but to mark a football game result.

Taking to Instagram on Saturday (May 25), hours after the story first broke, Eamonn shared a photo with his nearly 800,000 followers.

It was a sketch of him with Sir Alex Ferguson to mark Manchester United’s win over Manchester City.

‘My God , what a Cuo Final , what a Result !#MUFCEuropean football next season too . The Magic of The Cuo . Congratulations to the whole squad 👏👏👏👏 [sic]’, his caption read.

Naturally, fans in the comments were keen for him to address the elephant in the room.

‘Really sorry to hear about you and Ruth x’, wrote maria_mari_marie_.

‘So sad to hear about your news – you were always my dream team 😢 You had such great chemistry … I wish you both the very best going forward ….’, commented howellsnk11.

Others probed for an explanation behind the power couple’s split, while fellow commenters reminded them it is ‘none of our business’.

This weekend, a spokesperson for Eamonn and Ruth, both aged 64, confirmed to Metro.co.uk that they had parted ways.

A statement read: ‘Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.’

The ex-This Morning hosts married in June 2010 and have one son, Jack, who was born in 2002.

Their wedding was a star-studded occasion, with TV presenters Gloria Hunniford and Jeremy Kyle, EastEnders actress Zoe Lucker, and former champion boxer Barry McGuigan on the guest list.

They tied the knot over a decade after they started dating, with Eamonn already a dad to three children – Declan, Rebecca, and Niall – from his first marriage.

While either party is yet to break their silence, it’s believed Eamonn and Ruth’s separation is ‘amicable’.

It’s been said that work commitments ‘took their marriage in different directions’, but they are ‘determined to stay friends’.

Consequently, the exes found themselves caught up in rumours of trouble in paradise a while ago, having not appeared together on their individual Instagram accounts for months.

A friend of Eamonn and Ruth also told MailOnline: ‘Ruth and her team have been telling their friends to look out for the comments, which they are planning to put on social media.’

They added: ‘It’s a very sorry tale. They are both so loved by the British public, they won over so many people on This Morning which they hosted for more than a decade.’

TV fanatics will know that Eamonn and Ruth worked together on-screen plenty of times throughout their marriage.

In 2006, they began presenting the daytime programme This Morning together, before leaving in 2021 and being replaced by Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond.

Eammon and Ruth also presented Channel 5 programmes, including How The Other Half Lives, Do The Right Thing With Eamonn And Ruth, and Eamonn And Ruth’s 7 Year Itch.
