Does Petco care about their animals? ›

We have high standards for animal health and welfare, both in our stores and throughout our entire company. These standards were developed, and are continually updated, under the supervision of our own veterinary staff, with counsel from a panel of independent experts in animal care, behavior and ethics.

PetSmart usually has vets offices as part of the store, and still sells cats and dogs, which Petco does not. They don't sell any animal that would be used as food, so no rats, mice, crickets or feeder fish. Petco works with local adoption groups to make cats and dogs avaialble.
