CamelCamelCamel vs Keepa: Which Price Tracker is Best? (2024)

As a consumer, I’m constantly using price tracker tech to ensure I get the best deals on any product I purchase. Using a browser extension or website like CamelCamelCamel or Keepa means I can keep track of every potential price drop, and saving opportunity.

But Amazon price trackers like these aren’t just great for customers. If you’re an Amazon seller, an ecommerce business owner, or you sourcing products from marketplaces for your catalog, these tools can be extremely handy for you too.

They can help you choose the best price for your products, and maintain an edge over the competition, and even reduce your sourcing costs.

Plus, they can be a great way to validate new products you’re thinking of selling, because you can track how to-selling items rise and fall in value over time.

The question is, which solution should you use? After experimenting with both CamelCamelCamel and Keepa myself, I’ve created this comparison guide to help you make the right choice.

My Quick Verdict

Both CamelCamelCamel and Keepa are similar tools for tracking price data, the history of a product on Amazon, and price drops.

However, CamelCamelCamel is a more user-friendly tool, and it’s available for free. Keepa does have a free plan, but you’ll have more control over price drop alerts and you can access more product information with a paid plan.

CamelCamelCamel vs Keepa: Pros and Cons

Both CamelCamelCamel and Keepa are great tools, with a lot of similar features, from price history graphs to automated email alerts and chrome extensions. However, they both have their own distinct pros and cons to think about too.

CamelCamelCamel Pros and Cons

CamelCamelCamel is an Amazon price tracker tool that monitors the prices of 6 million Amazon products in regions around the world. It’s free to use, convenient, and has a dedicated browser plugin.

Pros:

  • Instant and automated alerts for Amazon product pricing changes.
  • Insights into third-party new/used, and Amazon first-party prices.
  • Plugins for Firefox, Google Chrome, Edge, and Safari.
  • Excellent global reach, with price monitoring in dozens of countries.
  • Great price history graphs
  • Completely free to use for repricing data

Cons:

  • No integrations for ecommerce platforms or other tools.
  • Occasional inaccuracies
  • No insights into shipping costs

Keepa Pros and Cons

Keepa is a convenient Amazon price tracker, similar to CamelCamelCamel, with insights into more than 4.5 billion Amazon products (and their prices). Like CamelCamelCamel, it has its own range of browser plugins, as well as mobile apps, and API access.

Pros:

  • Comprehensive management interface for tracking products
  • Personalized Keepa dashboard with in-depth metrics
  • Automated notifications on a range of channels (including Web Push)
  • Google Play (Android) and Apple (iOS) apps
  • Comprehensive price history charts
  • API availability for custom integrations
  • Extra insights for Ebay, and FBA sellers

Cons:

  • Slight learning curve for beginners
  • Requires a premium subscription for advanced features
  • Current price deals aren’t always reliable

CamelCamelCamel vs Keepa: Pricing

Let’s start with the first thing I look at when reviewing any ecommerce platform, app, or tool: pricing. One of the reasons I love CamelCamelCamel (CCC) is that it’s completely free. There are no subscription fees to pay, regardless of whether you’re using a browser plugin or web-based tool.

You also don’t have to pay to access any unique features, like Amazon wishlist importing, price history charts, or automated notifications. All you really need to do to unlock all the features of CamelCamelCamel is share an email address.

Alternatively, while you can use Keepa for free, you’ll be limited in the features you can access. On a free plan, you can track deals, get price alerts, and use the browser plugins. However, you can’t access sales rank history charts, buy box statistics, eBay price history graphs, or interactive graphs.

If you want to leverage all the features of Keepa, you’ll need a “data access” plan, which starts at 19€ per month. This includes all of the features mentioned above, as well as basic access to Keepa’s API (with 5 tokens a minute), and price increase tracking.

If you want more tokens for Keepa’s API, prices start at 49€ per month for 20 tokens per minute.

CamelCamelCamel vs Keepa: Key Features

Overall, CamelCamelCamel and Keepa are very similar. They’re both basic “price tracker” tools you can use to monitor the cost of millions of products. However, there are a few basic differences in the overall functionality you’ll get from each solution. Let’s take a closer look.

Price Tracking

Both CamelCamelCamel and Keepa are first and foremost, price-tracking tools. However, CamelCamelCamel focuses exclusively on Amazon prices (as well as third-party new/used prices on Amazon). It offers insights into millions of products worldwide, and allows users to set price thresholds for when they want to receive alerts about products.

Plus, it allows users to monitor the latest deals and offers on Amazon, with comprehensive, regularly updated lists of trending price drops, and the biggest price changes.

Similarly, Keepa also allows you to receive automated notifications about product prices (both on Amazon and Ebay). Plus, it comes with a great deals page on the website where you can check out recent price drops, based on a range of filters.

With both tools, you can search for products you want to monitor by product title, ASIN, or using an Amazon link. However, Keepa monitors a larger number of products and sellers than CamelCamelCamel overall, as well as giving you insights into product variations and their prices.

Price History Charts

Another area where CamelCamelCamel and Keepa are pretty similar are in the use of “price history” charts. CamelCamelCamel allows you to view graphs of price variations for specific periods, divided into “low”, “high” and “average” categories.

I think these charts are excellent particularly if you want to see the difference between price changes implemented by Amazon, and third-party vendors. You can get a comprehensive insight into how prices fluctuate for different products over any time frame, even when using the CCC plugin.

Keepa also offers historical price charts, with the opportunity to search through price changes based on a specific data range, and even compare international prices. I also appreciate the fact that you can “share” your graphs with other people in your team.

The biggest problem with Keepa’s history charts is that most of the more advanced features are reserved for paying subscribers. You can’t view sales rank history graphs, buy box statistics, and eBay pricing histories without upgrading to a paid plan.

You also won’t have access to offer count and review/rating history graphs. While this wider range of graphs does give you more data to work with if you use Keepa, there’s no guarantee that this extra information will be worth the monthly subscription price.

Plugins and Apps

You can use both CamelCamelCamel and Keepa on the web, just by logging into your account. However, if you want to save a little time on your product research, I recommend downloading one of the apps or browser plugins offered by each company.

CCC offers the “Camelizer” plugin for Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Opera, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple Safari. This plugin allows you to instantly access Amazon price history charts, create price watches from your browser, and more. It’s convenient, simple, and most importantly, free.

With Keepa, you can access plugins for all the same browsers as CamelCamelCamel. What makes the company a little different is that it also offers extra apps and extensibility solutions.

For instance, you can download Keepa’s app for your Android or iOS app, and view price histories, manage price watches, track product data, and search for products in seconds. The app can even send instant alerts to your phone.

Keepa also offers access to an API for developers, which you can use to integrate the platform with your existing workplace tools. It even includes ready-to-use PHP and Java Framework documentation. However, the more tokens you want to use, the more you’ll pay.

Wishlist Import

Another core feature both Keepa and CamelCamelCamel have in common, is the wishlist import option. Basically this means you can import any public amazon wishlist into the platform, and automatically track important information about the products you want to buy or sell.

I couldn’t see many major differences between CCC and Keepa’s wishlist functionality. Both tools will import the products from your chosen URL into your tracking lists for you. However, Keepa does limit imports to 10 items per list, unless you’re using the browser extension.

Ease of Use, Security, and Customer Service

I didn’t have much trouble figuring out how to use CamelCamelCamel or Keepa. However, I should note that both website-based tools feel a little clunky and outdated at times. If you’re looking for a sleek and streamlined interface, you won’t get it here.

That being said, both tools make it relatively easy to track down products and price histories, and create automated alerts for the products you want to watch.

I did think Keepa felt a little more complicated at times, but it does give you more features to explore, such as sales rank history graphs, so it makes sense that it would take more time to get used to everything.

I also did appreciate the fact that Keepa gives you more “account settings” options. For instance, you can control how often you’re notified about lightning deals, as well as where you receive messages from Keepa (via email, Telegam, or web push notifications).

These aren’t options on CamelCamelCamel.

What is a little worrying is that I couldn’t find any data privacy or security information anywhere on Keepa. The reason for this could be that you’re not actually sharing any private information with Keepa for the most part.

With both CamelCamelCamel, you’re free to control how often the company can contact you, and you don’t have to download browser extensions if you don’t want to.

However, CamelCamelCamel does promise not to share information collected about you with any third parties, which is reassuring.

These companies aren’t particularly forthcoming with customer service either. With CamelCamelCamel, you can only reach out for technical support via email, or visit the company’s FAQ page.

I couldn’t find any contact details for CamelCamelCamel (except for developers using the API). However, there is a handy forum where you can keep track of announcements, report bugs, access community help, and request features.

CamelCamelCamel vs Keepa: The Verdict

Overall, I think CamelCamelCamel is the better tool if you’re looking for a straightforward, free solution for tracking Amazon product prices.

If you want access to more price information, and more comprehensive graphs and insights, Keepa is a better bet. However, you will need to pay extra to unlock all the features, and manage the slightly higher learning curve.

The good news is that you can read through the forum posts on Keepa’s website to learn more about things like Amazon FBA tracking, new features, and tracking best sellers.
