Keto Thai Beef Stir Fry - Keto Recipes | FatForWeightLoss (2024)

My trusty oldrecipe made new again!Beef Stir Fry.

Here in Australia, it’s starting to get a little bit cooler. I know that sounds strange, because you probably think Australia is always hot… well, trust me when I say that Australians never really get used to the cold. We just simply have a small window in the year to rip out our favourite jacket that makes us feel slightly European, even for just a moment…. It all comes crashing back to earth pretty soon when underneath that jacket forms a pool of sweat.

In Brisbane especially, we love to talk about the weather. We recently had the Brisbane comedy festival. It’s really just a few comedians that turn up at the Powerhouse in New farm with a few sets of laughter. THEY even joked about the weather, and more specifically how much people from Brisbane love to talk about what the weather is doing…. It’s pretty much sunny 360 days of the year. When it’s not, be prepared to complain like you’ve never complained before!

Speaking of the weather, Thailand is a great country that has magnificent weather. I’ve never actually been, but it is on the bucket list!

Recipe Summary

Thai chefs have a unique ability to mix coconut into everything. This little secret works out a treat for us in this Beef Stir Frybecause keto recipes SHOULD include coconut in everything! It’s the miracle pill that helps your brain maintain peak function whilst simultaneously losing weight.

Coconut also tastes insanely good. If you don’t like coconut, leave this website right now. You’re no longer allowed to freely browse these pages as you have sinned the very foundations of the ketogenic diet…. I’m only kidding! Maybe just skip to the next recipe.

You might have seen this recipe before, and if you’re wondering what sort of magic I’m using… It is just an old recipe that has been re-vamped! Since I’ve become slightly better at taking photos, and ditched the yellow filled Iphone shots, I thought I’d better get some proper photos done to give this recipe the light of day it deserves.

Useful Tips

Whilst cooking off the beef, you will notice that a fair amount of water and juice will seep from the meat. I discarded the water / extra fat, but don’t worry, you’re still adding plenty of coconut milk back into the mix, along with the coconut oil and sesame seed oil. Never fear my fat loving friends!

Stir frying is a Chinese cooking technique in which ingredients are fried in a small amount of very hot oil while being stirred in a wok. The technique originated in China and in recent centuries has spread into other parts of Asia and the West. Since Australia is very close to Asia, we tend to do a lot of Asian cooking. I absolutely love it for this Beef Stir Fry.

Micronutrients In This Recipe

Iron

I was listening to Fat For Fuel by Dr. Mercola today (seriously good read!), and he was talking about Iron. Iron is an important mineral because we can easily get too much of it. Yes, that’s right. Too much iron. And would you believe that too much Iron can actually be extremely bad for us?

Men are more susceptible to Iron overdosing, because we don’t menstruate. Women have less iron that men, but can still be susceptible to excess iron.

If you want to check your Iron levels, you should consult your physician. Ask for a Serum Ferritin Test. Iron overload is easily diagnosed by measuring your serum ferritin. Lab normal levels are correct and should be between 20 and 80 ng/ml; between 40 and 60 ng/ml is the sweet spot

Lauric Acid

Lauric Acid is converted by the body into what’s called Monolaurin. This is an antiviral and antibacterial substance that destroys organisms that can wreak havoc on your internal workings. Coconuts are high in Lauric acid, mainly in the form of Medium Chain Saturated Fatty Acids. These are commonly known as MCT’s by most people in the ketogenic community, and provide your body plenty of energy, whilst also protecting against infections and viruses.

MCT’s are metabolised by the Liver, and skip straight from the digestive tract. They are absorbed very quickly, which is why they can be used to cure quick hunger cravings. MCT oil can come in a liquid form, and cause disaster pants if consumed in excess. Always work from 1 teaspoon up to 1 tablespoon over the course of a week or so. Trust me, I have experienced all sorts of MCT oil pain.

So there you have it! This recipe has been a sneaky favourite for a lot of my friends. It’s just one of those simple recipes that are good to have up your sleeve.

FAQs

Is ground beef okay on keto? ›

Low-cost AND low carb! It's not too good to be true—ground beef is totally keto-approved! The low-budget meat you know and love can be incorporated into SO many keto recipes, whether you're in the mood for a hearty dinner, a light lunch, or just a snack (fat bombs, we love you).

Are bean sprouts keto compliant? ›

Bean sprouts are a great keto-friendly vegetable that is underutilized and are so delicious in a stir-fry! I like to pair it with garlic chives and red bell pepper. This dish is lightly seasoned and pairs well with any protein. The garlic chives add a garlic flavor without using garlic cloves.

Although the beef is often water-velveted — or marinated in a cornstarch slurry that adds carbs while tenderizing the meat — it remains a better choice for Chinese takeout than other higher carb options.

The bottom line. Mushrooms, like oyster, shiitake, white button, and portobello, are naturally low in carbohydrates, making them a keto-friendly food. Enjoy them raw or cooked, in dishes like stir-fry, casseroles, scrambles, soups, or stuffed with low carb ingredients like cream cheese and bacon.

What is the best meat to eat on keto? ›

Nearly all minimally processed meats are good sources of keto-friendly protein, including beef, chicken, fish, shellfish, pork, turkey, bison, and lamb. Ground beef is high in protein, so it's a particularly filling meat option. It's also low in net carbs, meaning it fits right into a keto or paleo diet. To be fair, though, there is some saturated fat and monounsaturated fat in even lean ground beef, whether you're cooking with 80/20, 85/15, or even a lean 90/10.

What kind of beef is good for keto? ›

Steaks are also a great source of protein for keto, and the fattier the cut the better, so ribeye and sirloin steaks are ideal. Beef – ribs, ground beef, steaks and more!
