Brits flock to cheap UK theme park 'better than Disneyland and Legoland' (2024)

A huge theme park in Devon which boasts over 60 rides and attractions, entertainment and live shows has been praised by holidaymakers – one mum said her kids even preferred it to Disneyland Paris and Legoland Windsor.

Crealy Theme Park and Resort, near Exeter, is fair whack cheaper than the more well-known parks too with a day ticket costing from £15 and kids under a certain height getting in for free. The theme park has even been voted as the best day out in Devon for eight years running.

Thrill seekers can enjoy rollercoasters like The Twister and Maximus, classic rides like the giant swing Flying Machine and rocking boat Flying Dutchman, water rides like Vortex and the log flumes and you can even race miniature cars at the Crealy Grand Prix.

Take your swim suit to get wet at the Soak Zone in summer and if your little ones are into dinosaurs then they can even help to excavate fossils at the Dino Dig.

Meanwhile animal lovers will be thrilled by the 200 creatures you can meet from Meerkat Manor to Tortoise Town and Animal Land where you can meet and feed Shetland ponies, Welsh ponies, alpacas, wallabies, goats and emus!

There’s a huge indoor play park for when it rains as well as a Safari Express train, a wilderness play area and even classic seaside fun to be had at The Pier arcade. As an extra that adults will also love there’s Sooty Land – based on the character from Sooty and Sweep which has rides, carnival games, a mirror made and a magic bus ride.

The park throws events like £14 Winter Weekenders as well as Easter egg hunts, wrestling, BMX and other sports shows and more. Anyone who wants to make a staycation of their visit can even book into the resort and choose from five star hot tub lodges, themed glamping tents or over 100 camping and touring pitches.

Reviews on TripAdvisor rave about the theme park. One mum, Becky T, wrote: "I have nothing but praise for this place today. Tidy and up to date park, extremely helpful pleasant staff. Loads of fun and things to do. My kids have said 'best day ever' [and they have] been to places like Disneyland Paris, Legoland. Excellent value for money and can’t wait to go back."

Thomas M wrote: "A great family day out! Very good value for money compared to similar places. Loads to do – rides, soft play, animals, and even a show!" While Alison F said: "Visited yesterday (5 March). Tickets were £12 each. Limited rides open but we were kept busy all day with the rides that were and the Sooty shows.

"Excellent value but the thing that made our trip stand out from other theme parks was the staff. Staff were engaging, friendly and went the extra mile. Thoroughly enjoyable day out."

Another family added: "We visited in February half term. The park wasn’t busy so we didn’t queue for longer than five minutes on each ride. All rides were open apart from a couple of water rides which were stated closed on the website."

There were some complaints, mostly centred around food and drink being expensive at the parks, but that's generally to be expected at any theme park. You can find popular dishes like pizza, fish and chips, hot dogs, American diner food, doughnuts, pasties, cake, jacket potatoes and picnic baskets on site. But, if you don’t want to pay then you can bring your own food to the park.

You can buy an annual pass from £85, or a day ticket from £15 (£13 for concessions) at crealy.co.uk. A stay at the resort in the campground costs from £80 for two nights or the lodges will set you back from £449 for two nights for a family of four. A luxury safari glamping cabin costs from £384 for two nights.
