They're unmistakably one of the world's most celebrated bands, yet some music aficionados are only understanding what AC/DC actually stands for 51 years later.
Formed by siblings Malcolm and Angus Young, the current roster of this acclaimed Australian rock group includes Angus as lead guitarist, Cliff Williams on bass, drummer Phil Rudd, frontman Brian Johnson, and rhythm guitarist Stevie Young, a nephew of the founding members.
Whilst they may be one of the most famous bands in the world, a devoted fan questioned the actual meaning of the band's name, leading them to inquire on Reddit: "What does AC/DC actually stand for? "
Contrary to belief AC/DC does not stand for 'Anti-Christ/Devil's Child' and in fact, the band's name has a far less sinister origin. When brothers Malcolm and Angus were brainstorming names, their sister Margaret suggested AC/DC after spotting it on her sewing machine's AC adapter.

The abbreviation actually stands for alternating current/direct current electricity, seen by the brothers as a symbol of their band's 'raw energy', reports the Mirror.
Interestingly, while most Brits and Americans refer to the band as AC/DC, in Australia they're colloquially known as Acca Dacca. Reacting to this revelation, one user commented: "I thought it meant Alternate/ Direct Current."
Another user humorously suggested: "Angus Can Dance Cool."
A third user opined: "It's a play on a theme, and a damned good one if you ask me."

This deal is based on a 48-month contract, with the total cost over four years coming to £816 - in comparison, the same tablet from Apple costs £749, but this doesn't include any data and requires an upfront payment.
Sky also offers other deals, including the 13-inch Air for £21 per month or the Pro for £27 per month.
As we've previously noted, Sky isn't the only network offering iPads on contract, with Vodafone and EE also providing customers with the option to purchase these devices via a monthly plan.
